This programme provides a pathway through Te Reo Pākehā, from preparation for NCEA co-requisite standards through to Level 3 NCEA English.

The pathway begins with a Pre-NCEA course for Years 9–10, followed by Level 1 NCEA Te Reo Pākehā or Level 1 NCEA Communications, with Level 2 and 3 courses available for senior Uri.

Learning focuses on reading and understanding texts, exploring universal themes, and developing strong critical thinking skills.

Learning Te Reo Pākehā through a Māori lens is the foundation of the programme.

NGĀ ARA AKO

  • Provides strong foundations in Te Reo Pākehā for further tertiary study or vocational pathways.
  • Senior courses include University Entrance (UE) literacy opportunities.

PAEARU WHAKAURU

  • Eligibility: Uri where English is not offered at their kura.
  • English: Curriculum Level 3. Uri must be at least Year 9 to apply.
  • NCEA Level Courses: Uri require proficient reading, writing, viewing, listening and speaking skills, with reading and writing at Curriculum Level 6.
  • Confident and competent to navigate and engage in new digital spaces.
  • Uri must be reliable, responsible, self-managing, self-motivated and have a positive attitude towards learning.
  • Uri may be invited to an interview to assess their suitability and readiness for the course.

NGĀ KAWENGA

​To participate successfully, Uri will need:
  • A device that can access the internet, with camera and microphone.
  • Stable Wifi access at kura and home.
  • To be self-motivated and able to learn independently.
  • Support from your kura and an allocated Kaitakawaenga.

MAHI NGĀTAHI

​Kawa Angitu sets out how Te Whare Angitu and kura work together to support Uri learning and achievement, with clear expectations for both parties.

Kura ā-iwi must agree to support Uri to engage fully in the course, as outlined in Kawa Angitu.
