POIPOIA TE RITO - HE PŪTEA TAUTOKO MŌ NGĀ URI WHAIKAHAPoipoia te Rito is designed to support kura to strengthen inclusion and outcomes for Uri Whaikaha with specific learning needs, abilities and physical disabilities. The pūtea enables kura to develop kura-wide strategic responses, implement kura-led and whānau-informed initiatives, and design localised, kaupapa Māori approaches that are culturally responsive and strengths-based. Funding is prioritised for kura with the greatest need and least access to resources, supporting meaningful co-design with whānau and reinforcing NKAI’s commitment to equitable access, participation, and wellbeing for Uri Whaikaha within kura settings.
All kura have access to this pūtea through a bi-annual allocation that is distributed in Terms 2 and 4. Applications open 20 April 2026. Tūngia te ururua kia tupu whakaritorito te tupu o te harakeke! HE TŪRANGA hou - he POU WHAKARITOHe Tūranga Pou Whakarito enhances kura-wide capability through a kaupapa Māori lens. During Terms 1 and 2 all kura ā-iwi will receive funding for a Pou Whakarito to be employed within your kura.
The Pou Whakarito is a pivotal role dedicated to strengthening inclusive education and championing the aspirations of Uri Whaikaha—Uri with diverse learning needs, abilities, and physical challenges. Established to drive the implementation of Te Rautaki Tupu Whakarito, this role is not a teaching position but a coordination and capability-building role that strengthens inclusive education through a kaupapa Māori lens, and empowers kaiako, whānau, and Uri Whaikaha to thrive within culturally grounded, inclusive learning environments. A revolutionary Professional Learning and Development approach will be provided to support and guide your newly appointed Pou Whakarito, accessible also to all kaimahi from your kura. REHEKŌ!
