The University of Auckland. She has worked as a nurse for over 30 years in youth health in various roles and as an academic.
TC is a founding member of the Adolescent Health Research Group and Youth2000 health and wellbeing survey series since 1998. She recently led a research project exploring the role of whanaungatanga on rangatahi wellbeing. TC is a member of our Kahui Mana Uri for Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa.
I will give an overview of the national health and wellbeing surveys over the past 20 years with a focus on rangatahi mental health.
I will share some resources and strategies that we know are helpful for rangatahi and their whānau to improve hauora.

A descendant of Te Whānau ā Apanui, Ngāti Porou, Ngai Tahu and Ngāti Whātua, Arihia is a long standing tumuaki of Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae whose philosophy of, Inā te mahi he Rangatira: ‘By deeds a chief is known’ is well recognised.
Arihia supports teachers and leaders within kura and across Māori medium education, especially as the Chairperson of Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa.
Arihia Stirling has many accolades working in various internationally forums representing Aotearoa and indigenous peoples, and has been acknowledged for dedicated services to Māori and education in Aotearoa as a recipient of the Queens Service Medal.
Arihia continues to support and promote Māori as an advisor to a range of various Government departments.
