At Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa, we believe every uri deserves the opportunity to learn, thrive, and succeed.
When uri are absent from kura, they miss daily opportunities to strengthen their te reo Māori, identity, culture, learning, and sense of belonging. Strong attendance is essential to achieving the aspirations we hold for our uri.

As part of this commitment, Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa is supporting kura to develop Attendance Management Plans that meet Ministry of Education requirements while reflecting the unique identity, reo, tikanga, and aspirations of each kura.

Attendance Management Plans

The Ministry of Education requires all kura to have an Attendance Management Plan (AMP) in place by the start of the 2026 school year.

To support this important mahi, Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa is providing dedicated support to guide kura through the development, refinement, and implementation of their AMP.

How we support kura ā-iwi

A dedicated Kaiārahi will work alongside your kura to:
  • Embed the reo of kura, tikanga, and iwi aspirations into your AMP.
  • Ensure your AMP meets Ministry of Education requirements.
  • Support the development of practical strategies for implementation and ongoing review.

What We Ask of Kura

To ensure your Attendance Management Plan reflects your kura and community, we ask that kura:
  • Make time for hui and kōrero throughout the development process.
  • Ensure the voices of whānau, hapū, and iwi are heard and reflected within the AMP.

What WE Will Provide

Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa will provide:
  • A dedicated AMP Kaiārahi to support your kura throughout the process.
  • Full funding for the Kaiārahi support.
  • Tailored guidance to ensure your Attendance Management Plan reflects your kura’s unique identity.
  • Support to align your AMP with the uara of Te Ara ToA and the pou of Te Tihi o Angitu.
  • Guidance to ensure your AMP meets Ministry of Education requirements.
