This programme focuses on pathways through Te Reo Pākehā from preparation for the co-req internal and external standards, to Level 3 English NCEA.
A pre NCEA year 9 & 10 course, followed by Level 1 NCEA Te Reo Pākehā or Level 1 NCEA Communications course make up the foundations of the programme. Senior level courses for Level 2 and 3 NCEA are available for senior students.
A key focus is placed on reading of texts, understanding universal themes and developing a wider and broader knowledge of critical thinking.
Learning Te Reo Pākehā through a Māori lens is the foundation of this approach to English language learning.

Uri where English is not offered at their kura.
English: Curriculum Level 3 (Uri must be at least Year 9 to apply).
For NCEA level courses, students must have proficient reading, writing, viewing, listening and speaking skills. Strong command of both reading and writing, Level 6 of the curriculum.
Confident and competent to navigate and engage in new digital spaces.
Uri must be reliable, responsible, self-managing, self-motivated and have a positive attitude towards learning.
Uri may be asked to undertake an interview to assess their suitability for this course.
NGĀ ARA AKO
Foundations in Te Reo Pākehā for both further tertiary study or vocational pathways.
Literacy for UE included in senior courses.
